By rssfeeds-admin NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — New Orleans firefighters responded to a two alarm house fire that occurred in the Tremé area of the city on Saturday, April 12.
According to the New Orleans Fire Department, the incident, which occurred at 2003 Dumaine Street, was first reported by 911 call at 10:33 a.m., with firefighters arriving at 10:38 a.m. and a second alarm being struck at 10:42 a.m.
On scene, smoke and fire was seen coming from the rear of the home and extending to the attic. The residents of the home were outside and explained that they had awoken to smoke in the kitchen area. As they escaped the home, they closed the door to that area of the house. Additionally, they informed responders that pets were still inside.
Firefighters say they made an “aggressive interior attack” on the kitchen and attic space above. One dog was rescued during their response, but another died in the kitchen area.
In all, 17 NOFD units carrying 43 fire personnel worked to bring the fire under control by 11:12 a.m. No civilian or firefighter injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
