On April 2, 2025, Richland police said they attempted to stop a motorcycle on Interstate 20 near Highway 49 around 1:00 a.m. for not having a tag.
According to investigators, the suspect, Michael Shane Dickerson, did not stop and led officers on a chase almost to Newton County. Police said Dickerson pulled onto the shoulder, and once officers exited their patrol vehicles, he attempted to flee again. An officer was able to get Dickerson off of the motorcycle, and he was arrested.
Police said Dickerson was in possession of nearly 30 grams of methamphetamine. They said Dickerson has an extensive criminal history with more than 20 arrests, including 11 felonies.
At the time of his arrest, police said Dickerson was wanted by the Madison County Sheriff’s Office for trafficking a controlled substance and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon.
