Laurel County grocery staple closes after over 100 years of serving community

LONDON, Ky. (FOX 56) — A store at the corner of Barbourville Road and Lagoon Trail in London has been supplying families in the community for over 100 years—until now.

On Friday, April 10, Laurel County Sheriff John Root posted on social media asking for prayers for the Laurel Grocery Company’s staff in the wake of its closure.

LATEST KENTUCKY NEWS:

“As a thriving business with over 100 years of history in our county, its closure has had a profound effect on the community, resulting in numerous job losses,” Root wrote. “Let us pray for the employees, that they may either enjoy a peaceful retirement or quickly find new employment opportunities to support themselves and their families.”

FOX 56 reached out to Laurel Grocery for comment but has not heard back.
