Tamia Rios, of University Park, faces one count of Aggravated Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol Involving Death (Class 2 Felony) and two counts of Aggravated Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol Causing Great Bodily Harm (Class 4 Felony) in the three-vehicle crash early Sunday morning on Interstate 94 at 87th Street
ISP says a semi-trailer was slowing due to a stalled vehicle in the road when Rios, the driver of a 2021 Buick, struck both the semi and the stalled vehicle.
The passenger of the Buick, 23-year-old Carlos Rios of Ithaca, NY, was pronounced dead at a local hospital. Rios, her two other passengers, and the driver of the stalled vehicle were transported to area hospitals with injuries.
ISP agents presented their case to the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office on Monday and charges were filed against Rios.
Rios was arrested and held pending her first court appearance.
