Portion of Springfield Avenue in Rockford to close for $3.9M bridge replacement project

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — A $3.9 million project to replace a Rockford bridge will close Springfield Avenue until November.

Work to replace the bridge carrying Springfield Avenue over the North Fork of Kent Creek will begin on Monday, April 14th.

Access to Anna Page Park will be available during the closure, but the trails that run beneath the bridge will be closed, according to the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT).

IDOT says drivers should expect delays and prepare for slow or stopped traffic. A detour will direct traffic to use Auburn Street, Central Avenue, and Kilburn Avenue.

The project is part of the Rebuild Illinois program, which anticipates improving more than 3,200 miles of highway and 9 million square feet of bridge over the next six years.
