Teen girl killed in Wilmington hit-and-run, driver located

WILMINGTON, Del. (WPHL) — A 15-year-old girl was killed in a hit-and-run crash Monday morning in Wilmington, Del.

Investigators identified the girl as Sa’riyah Patterson. She was hit while crossing Maryland Avenue near Lower Oak Street. Witnesses said the driver fled the scene. When officers found the girl lying in the street, she was rushed to the hospital where she died.

Surveillance video on the street captured the crash. It appeared the car was speeding and driving on the opposite side of the road. Wilmington police tracked the vehicle to Bear, Del., about 13 miles south of the crash site. Officers located the suspected driver; however, police did not report whether any charges have been filed.

The crash is under investigation.
