Janelle Kay Mills is charged with 56 counts of animal cruelty after a search of a home last week.
The Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s Office responded April 2 to a call at a residence in Monroe in reference to a welfare concern called in by animal control.
Upon arrival at the residence, animal control said they could smell an odor commonly associated with decomposition coming from the home. Deputies then arrived at the residence, where they reportedly saw multiple cats and dogs.
According to officials, the dogs found at the residence were kept in dirty kennels. The cats were reportedly left in a closed bedroom.
Deputies were able to spot urine and feces in every room of the residence. Officials handed over the animal rescue to animal control, who reportedly found 56 animals in total.
The following animals were found at the residence:
- 48 live dogs
- One deceased dog in a plastic bag
- Seven cats
Investigators identified Mills as the suspect in this case. Bond details were not released.
