One of the main tools hackers are using is called “Zeus.”
While it’s been around since 2007, it’s been spreading faster in recent years as more people use their phones for banking, potentially exposing their most sensitive information to hackers.
According to Scamicide, if “Zeus” (also called Zbot) infects your smart phone, tablet or computer, it can use keystroke logging to steal your bank account login information and take money from your accounts.
According to cyber security company “Kaspersky,” these kinds of attacks increased by 196% percent in 2024.
How can you protect yourself?
Scamicide recommends installing anti-malware software on all your devices.
You should also make sure you update your operating system software whenever new versions become available. The updates often include crucial security patches designed to stay ahead of the bad guys.
In addition, use two-factor authentication on your bank and other important accounts. This presents another obstacle for hackers to clear even if they get your username and password.
As always, don’t click links or download anything from an email or message unless you’re 100% sure it’s safe.
Social media links are especially dangerous because you have no idea where they’re originating from, even if it looks like it’s from a name or company you know.
If you see an interesting social media ad, avoid clicking the link and go to the company’s website on your own.
