Deputies say at about 8:45 p.m. Friday they responded to a report of a victim with a gunshot wound near Ormus and Bowles avenues in Raisin City.
Upon arrival, responding units reported a man, identified by the coroner as 38-year-old Jose Rodriguez Calderon, lying in the street with an obvious gunshot wound.
Despite life-saving efforts, deputies report Calderon was pronounced dead at the scene. Crime scene detectives responded and gathered information from witnesses.
On Saturday, detectives identified 47-year-old Martin Avalos as the suspect and arrested him later that evening. Investigators reported the two men lived next to each other on South Ormus Avenue.
Deputies say Avalos was booked into the Fresno County Jail on suspicion of murder.
