Thousands of people will attend the two-day event, which celebrates the Central Valley’s western heritage. But that did not stop people from showing up wearing hats of all kinds.
From little hats and big hats to pink hats and trucker hats, if people did not come with one on their head, you bet there was a vendor on every corner with a hat to match their style.
“I always wear hats and it kind of just became an obsession,” said Missy Tuck, owner and designer of Hey Girl Hats.
Tuck has been selling hats for seven years, so this weekend’s event is right up her alley.
“We are preparing items for 50,000 people to come out and shop,” she said.
“I really like to support small businesses. So, I think this is a great opportunity. It also brings people out to support the local businesses that are here all the time,” said San Diego resident Jessica Holte.
Holte and her partner Richard are from the Central Valley but now live in San Diego. They drove to explore over 350 vendors spread across 15 blocks in Old Town Clovis, offering food, crafts, and, of course, hats.
“It’s been a while, at least seven years,” Richard Rodriguez said.
“Longer for me,” Holte chimed in.
From one-of-a-kind jewelry, refreshing drinks, and even livestock, Big Hat Days has something for everyone.
“Literally everyone, everyone and anyone. Come by yourself,” exclaimed Clovis resident Eric Ormonde.
Madelin Ormonde has been attending Big Hat Days for as long as she can remember. This year, she’s excited to create new memories with her husband, Eric, and their two boys.
“It’s definitely bigger than it was when I was really little. I don’t remember them having all the rides when I was younger or the pony rides. That’s what they came to see. Definitely the pony rides,” Madelin shared.
The second day of Big Hat Days runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
