SPD: Man shot after homeowner reportedly saw him breaking into neighboring vehicles

SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) – A man is in the hospital after he was shot by a homeowner who believed the man was a threat to his safety and property.

Police were called to the 7600 block of University Place around 4 am after he reportedly witnessed two males wearing all black allegedly attempting to break into cars at neighboring homes while he was outside smoking a cigarette.

The homeowner told the police that he was approached by one of the individuals and instructed the man to stop his approach. When the suspect continued walking, the homeowner told investigators that he fired at the suspected burglar, striking him in the lower abdominal area and right arm. He was brought to the hospital with injuries that are listed as life-threatening.

This is an ongoing Shreveport police investigation.
