Severe storms, tornadoes hit South, complicates SWEPCO restoration

UPDATE (April 5, 10:29 a.m.): SWEPCO says they are working quickly and safely to restore those affected by Friday’s storms, which caused extreme flooding in various parts of the territory. SWEPCO says their estimated restoration time for 95% of customers is 10 p.m. today.

U.S. National Weather Service flood watch remains in effect for southwest Arkansas and northeast Texas, which could impact restoration efforts.

As of April 5, 10:37 a.m., 7,189 SWEPCO customers are without power:
  • 1,430 in Arkansas,
  • 689 in Louisiana,
  • and 5,070 homes in Texas

Meteorologist Todd Warren says there is a tornado watch for the Ark-La-Tex and Oklahoma area, and some residents have reported golf ball-sized hail concentrated around Cass County, Texas.

SWPECO says, “Don’t touch it or anything near it. Even telephone or cable lines can become energized. Keep yourself and others as far away as possible and call 911 or SWEPCO immediately at (888) 218-3919.”
