The weekend begins on a cloudy note with lingering showers possible Saturday morning following a soggy Friday
Rainfall amounts across the southern portion of the Chicago area could be significant, with numerous locations picking up more than 1 inch. This could potentially lead to river rises and flooding of fields, creeks and ditches.
High temperatures will top out in the low 50s away from the lake both Saturday and Sunday while a northerly breeze off the lake will keep temperatures in the chilly low to mid 40s for lakeside areas.
The new week opens with highs well below normal both Monday and Tuesday. High temperatures are forecast to be between 5 and 13-degrees below normal the next four days before it warms up later next week.
Cloud cover thickens again Sunday night into Monday as a disturbance from the northwest arrives, and combined with chilly air, brings the chance for some wet snow showers on Monday.
A catastrophic and life-threatening flood event is ongoing across portions of the Lower Ohio Valley, Mid-South and Ozarks where some areas have already received 5-10 inches of rain.
Potentially long and severe disruptions to communities are likely as more heavy rainfall on already saturated ground is likely through the coming weekend.
