At 6:30 p.m. a Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) deputy on patrol found a stolen U-Haul truck in the parking lot of a Fred Meyer in Wood Village.
When the deputy approached the truck, authorities said the vehicle drove away, prompting a pursuit.
Even after the deputy deployed a spike strip at Northeast 223rd Avenue and Park Lane, the truck continued driving into Gresham. However, the truck slowed down after a second spike strip was deployed, stopping near Northeast Sandy Boulevard and 131st Place with three flat tires.
The driver, identified as 38-year-old Gabriel Vogel, tried to run away on foot into the nearby neighborhood and MCSO K-9 Hans was brought in to track him, officials said.
Hans soon found Vogel hiding under a deck.
Vogel was taken into custody on charges of possession of a stolen vehicle, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, reckless driving, attempting to elude police on foot and attempting to elude police by vehicle.
