Scattered snow showers continue with heavier snow across southern mountains

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) – Happy Wednesday, Utah! It’s been a mostly cloudy start to the day with a few isolated flakes flying across northern Utah.

Across southern Utah, moisture has been on the increase during the morning hours leading to more widespread snow shower activity and rain showers in St. George. The unsettled weather pattern will stick around through our Wednesday evening into Thursday as an upper-low moves across southern Utah.

This will lead to an area of concentrated and heavier snow activity in the southern mountains of Utah. A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for this area through 9 p.m. Wednesday. Parts of the southern mountains may pick up between 6-12″ of snow over the next few days.

Meanwhile, across north and central Utah, expect off-and-on scattered snow showers to continue for our Wednesday and Thursday afternoons, but little to no accumulation is expected.

High temperatures will remain below normal with highs only in the upper 40s to near 50. Morning lows will dip down into the upper 20s to lower 30s along the Wasatch Front. For southwest Utah, look for highs to only be in the upper 50s to lower 60s with overnight lows in the upper 30s.

Beyond Friday, the overall pattern is for drier and warmer conditions. Highs will warm into the upper 50s to low 60s across the Wasatch Front this weekend, with highs in the 70s for southwest Utah.

Things will dry out later in the week, leading to mostly sunny and comfy conditions for our weekend outlook. Next week will feature a high-pressure ridge nosing in from the east. This not only brings the much drier trend to the forecast, but it also will bring the return of more spring-like temperatures.

Highs by the middle of next week will climb to about 10-15° above average. This will mean highs in the mid-to-upper 60s across the Wasatch Front, and highs in the upper 70s to lower 80s for southwest Utah.

Stay tuned!
