Kentucky State Police said authorities stopped a vehicle for multiple traffic violations near Anderson Crossing Drive. The driver was identified as 41-year-old Ronald Coffman, of Mercer County, and the passenger as 36-year-old Zebadiah Murphy, of Anderson County.
According to a news release, police were given consent to search the vehicle and allegedly found illegal narcotics and two improvised explosive devices (IEDs) in the rear floorboard.
Coffman allegedly told a trooper the explosive contained black powder and lead pellets.
Police said a perimeter was established and a hazardous device unit responded to the scene to remove the devices.
Kentucky State Police said a search warrant was obtained and Murphy’s home near Hammonds Creek Road in Anderson County was searched. Police allegedly found two more IEDs, along with the items needed to manufacture more.
Authorities also reported finding several firearms, improvised firearm suppressors, and restricted ammunition.
