ComEd secures $168M to boost electric vehicle adoption in Illinois

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WTVO) — Illinois will fund a $168 million plan by ComEd to offer incentives for businesses to buy electric fleet vehicles and for homeowners to install residential EV chargers.

The Illinois Commerce Commission approved the funding to be dispersed by ComEd over a three-year period.

The program will include incentives for medium- and heavy-duty fleet vehicles, school and transit buses, and residential charging equipment.

The plan includes a consumer awareness blitz, incentives earmarked for customers in low-income neighborhoods, and fleet assessments to identify businesses that would save money by switching to electric vehicles.

Last year, ComEd announced a similar $87 million program

available to business and public sector customers across Northern Illinois.

Illinois Gov. JB Prtizker has announced a statewide goal of having 1 million EVs on the road by 2030.
