According to the Citizens Energy Group, crews will close the intersection of E Washington Street and State Avenue starting Monday afternoon due to the water main relocation. Officials said this relocation will prepare the site for future roadway construction with IndyGo’s Blue Line.
The Blue Line is a 24-mile Bus Rapid Transit line that will provide rapid transit along Washington Street between Cumberland and the Indianapolis International Airport. IndyGo previously received federal funds
Officials with the Citizens Energy Group said that they expect the closure to last for around eight days. During the closure of the intersection, detour signs will lead traffic around the construction.
“Commercial trucks and large vehicles in particular are advised to strictly follow the signed detour to avoid clearance issues and tight turns,” officials said in a news release regarding the closure.
The release said that Citizens Energy Group expects to be working at several locations on Washington Street in the near future to relocate utility lines in preparation for the Blue Line construction.
