NOTE: This story has been turned into an almanac of Tuesday’s weather. We have published a new forecast/weather story for Wednesday.
Tuesday high temperatures continued at seasonable levels for a third consecutive day after recording 80% of the day’s possible sunshine.
Light winds shifted northeast off the still-chilly lake waters freshened significantly during the afternoon and created a notable spread across the metro area.
Highs ranged from the middle 50s well inland to the low 40s near Lake Michigan.
On warmer days when winds are light, the heated air over the land rises, allowing the cooler and denser air over the lake to flow onshore, delivering a cooling lake breeze.
March 2025 temperature update: Currently 9th warmest on record since observations began at Midway in 1928, averaging more than 5 degrees above normal but nearly a degree cooler than the same period a year ago.
