Robbery suspect arrested after allegedly pocketing condoms, threatening cashier

SANDY, Utah (ABC4) — A man was arrested on Wednesday after allegedly stealing condoms from a Utah convenience store and threatening the clerk earlier this week.

Saul Diaz was wanted in connection to the alleged robbery of a convenience store in Sandy, Utah, that took place on Monday.

A spokesperson with the Sandy City Police Department told ABC4.com that Diaz had paid for other items but had allegedly put condoms in his pocket without paying for them.

When the clerk confronted him about the condoms, Diaz reportedly implied that he had a gun. However, officials said that no gun was shown by Diaz, and the clerk didn’t see a weapon.

After Diaz had left the store — located at 7800 South and 700 East in Sandy — the clerk called the police.

Sandy PD’s Crime Suppression Unit tracked Diaz to a location at 800 South and State on Wednesday, where he was later taken into custody.

ABC4.com is working to learn more about the situation and what charges Diaz may be facing after his arrest.

There is no further information at this time.
