Pennsylvania House Passes 4 Bills to Protect ‘Obama Care’ for Pennsylvanians. Here’s How Your Bucks County Lawmakers Voted

Unanimously approved by 101 Democrats, and just 32 Republicans in Pennsylvania’s House of Representatives on Tuesday, Affordable Care Act protections are part of four bills heading to a MAGA-friendly state Senate for a vote.

“We can’t wait until DC politicians, or their appointees, take away health care rights. We have acted now to preserve the health care rights of Pennsylvanians,” said Rep. Perry Warren, (D- Bucks County).

City & State Pennsylvania.com reported one of the bills allows adult children to remain on their parent’s private health care plans until they reach age 26. Another prohibits medical insurance providers from capping both annual and lifetime benefits limits, the website said.

The four bills passed by the Democratic-led House and moving forward to the GOP-controlled Senate are:

House Bill 755, sponsored by Rep. Perry Warren, is the Health Insurance Preventive Services Coverage Act. It requires health insurance policies to cover preventive health care services without cost-sharing.

House Bill 535, sponsored by Rep. Dan Frankel, is the Health Insurance Protections Against Limitations Act. It stops insurance executives from capping coverage for essential benefits.

House Bill 404, sponsored by Rep. Eddie Pashinski, is the Health Insurance for Young Adults Act. It makes sure parents can keep their children insured until age 26.

House Bill 618, sponsored by Rep. Jim Haddock, is the Health Insurance Access Protections Act. It protects coverage for pre-existing conditions.

“The Affordable Care Act is at risk,” said Pennsylvania Lt. Gov. Austin Davis in a press release. “That’s why we must take action here in Pennsylvania to enshrine its protections into state law….There’s too much at stake.”

Perry points out that  the four bills will protect health care coverage for Pennsylvanians “regardless of what happens at the federal level.”

“Pre-existing condition coverage, preventative care coverage, no annual or lifetime limits, and adult children coverage to age 26 are essential health care protections under the Affordable Care Act since its passage in 2010. The House acted now to enshrine these rights into Pennsylvania state law,” he added. “We can’t wait until DC politicians, or their appointees, take away health care rights. We have acted now to preserve the health care rights of Pennsylvanians,” Perry said.

If the bills clear the Senate, Gov. Josh Shapiro is expected to sign them in to law.
