The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office has since identified the 13-year-old as Tawon Tribble.
A police source told WGN the person of interest in the shooting is Tribble’s uncle and also that the shooting could’ve been accidental. No charges have been filed at this point.
Police say the shooting happened just before 7 p.m. Monday at a home in the 500 block of West 65th Place, in the Englewood neighborhood. The 13-year-old boy, later identified as Tribble, was inside the home when a gun discharged, hitting him in the chest.
He was taken to Comer Children’s Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police say.
According to the Medical Examiner’s Office, Tribble lived about a block away from where the shooting happened, and a police source says Tribble and the shooter were in the same room when the incident happened.
