RIVERDALE, Utah (ABC4) — The two children who were said to be in “imminent danger” in an AMBER Alert on Monday were found safe, and the suspect has been taken into custody.
“We’re happy to announce that the children were found safe, they’re in good care, they’re going to be placed with family,” Casey Warren, Riverdale Police Chief, told ABC4.com on Monday night.
Ricardo Rojel Trujillo, 29, was taken into custody and was being interviewed by detectives on Monday night. Warren said officials received reports of Trujillo’s vehicle in Springville Canyon and responded to the area.
Trujillo was not found in his truck, but he was found with the children in the area.
Also on Monday, officials responded to a house fire and discovered a deceased woman in the home. Warren confirmed that the woman was the children’s mother, but other identifying information about her was not released.
According to previously filed arrest documents, Trujillo was arrested for domestic violence in January of this year. In 2021, he pleaded guilty to a Class A misdemeanor assault charge.
“A tragedy occurred tonight,” Warren said. “But we do have a win, where we were able to locate those children and get them back to their family.”
The Utah Criminal Justice Information System (UCJIS) canceled the AMBER Alert around 8 p.m. on Monday night.
Warren said several agencies assisted with the incident and expressed gratitude to the people who called in tips.
The investigation is ongoing.
