At around 11:50 a.m. on March 24, Cedar City dispatch received a 911 call regarding a snowmobiling accident near the Twisted Forest Trailhead in the Dry Lakes area. A woman — reportedly in her late 20s or early 30s — had been riding a snowmobile when she crashed into a tree.
Witnesses at the scene found the victim unconscious, according to a press release from the Iron County Sheriff’s Office. The woman reportedly had visible head injuries and facial bleeding.
“Immediate stabilization efforts were initiated as she regained consciousness; however, her awareness remained impaired,” the release states. “Observers accompanying her noted that a male passenger on the snowmobile suffered no significant injuries.”
A Life Flight team out of St. George was initially placed on standby while an Iron County Search and Rescue team responded to the location. Responders gave medical treatment on site, but due to the severity of the woman’s injuries — including a potentially broken collarbone, dislocated shoulder, and neck and back pain — air transport was called in.
After the woman was considered stabilized, a helicopter transported her to St. George Regional Hospital for treatment. Her current condition has not been released.
The identity of the victim has not been released at this time.
