NWS confirms tornado caused damage in Cass County on Wednesday

LOGANSPORT, Ind. — The National Weather Service has confirmed that a weak tornado caused damage in Cass County on Wednesday.

Initial reports from the NWS indicated strong straight-line winds caused damage in Cass County. During a subsequent survey, however, the NWS determined a “weak, very disorganized tornado” caused the damage.

The tornado was officially ruled an EF-0. The tornado’s peak wind speeds were 65 mph, and its path length was 0.89 miles.

The NWS reported that the tornado began at 7:54 p.m. near Logansport and ended in the same area at 7:55 p.m.

An NWS survey summary indicates the tornado began between two homes on E County Road 300 S. The tornado caused a television tower to bend over and damaged shingles and fences.

The debris the NWS found suggested the tornado had weak circulation. Despite its lack of strong circulation, the tornado still knocked over about 20 shallow-rooted trees.

The tornado dissipated near S County Road 150 E. Some fencing from the point of the tornado’s initial touchdown was found in the area where the tornado ended.

Counting the Cass County storm, seven tornadoes occurred on Wednesday. In total, 16 tornadoes have popped up in central Indiana this year. More than five of those tornadoes were spotted on March 15.
