4 transported to hospital after TRAX train collides with car in downtown Salt Lake

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — Four people have been transported to a local hospital with minor injuries after a UTA TRAX train collided with a car.

According to the Utah

Transit Authority, around 6:05 p.m. on Wednesday, police were alerted that the train had collided with a vehicle around 300 South and Main Street near Gallivan Plaza. Four people were transported to the hospital with minor injuries: Two from the car in question and two people who were on the train.

The car was reportedly traveling north on Main Street when the driver attempted to make a left turn onto 300 South. According to UTA, the train had already begun to move and wasn’t able to stop, ramming the car on its right side.

Police closed the intersection for a period of time to have the car towed and the train inspected. A bus bridge was in effect but has since been lifted.
