WATCH: Driver crashes through front of Utah bike shop

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — A driver drove a car through the front of a bike shop and cafe in the Liberty Wells neighborhood early Saturday morning before fleeing the scene.

The owner of Peak State Fit and Cycle Cafe, Heather Casey, woke up Saturday morning with an unexpected text from one of her baristas.

“My initial reaction was waking up to see a text message with a photograph of a hole in the wall and just my trying to process what I was looking at,” Casey said.

The shop’s security camera footage turned on moments after the car crashed through the shop’s front window. Watch the footage below:

“I only live a half a mile away, so I immediately hopped in the car and came down to see [it] for ourselves,” Casey told ABC4.com.

Shortly after the crash, security footage shows the driver of the vehicle get out of the vehicle and flee the scene.

According to documents obtained by ABC4.com, the owner of the damaged vehicle arrived at the scene on foot, claiming their car had been stolen earlier that morning; however, the owner never contacted police. The owner’s wallet and phone were also reportedly found inside the vehicle.

Documents also report that an Uber driver, who was carrying passengers, was sideswiped by the vehicle before the crash.

Police met with multiple witnesses and involved parties shortly after the incident, but no arrests have been made as of Tuesday evening. The Salt Lake City Police Department says the cause of the crash is still under investigation.

Casey, a resident of the Liberty Wells neighborhood, says they’re concerned about the effects of having to fix the damage. “There’s a potential that we’ll have to close for a time period,” she added.

Despite the setbacks, Casey says that she and her team have a positive outlook.
