SLCPD releases new photos from 2022 cold case murder, seeks more information

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — The Salt Lake City Police Department has released new photos of a vehicle suspected to have been involved in an unsolved homicide from 2022.

The images of the vehicle were captured on Jan. 23, 2022, which is the day that officers responded to a possible shooting near 130 South 800 West. At the scene, Anetupou Niualiku, 50, was found with a gunshot wound and later died from her injuries, despite lifesaving efforts from first responders.

While the license plate is not visible in the images shared by police, SLCPD said the car is believed to be a 2011-2013 Hyundai Sonata.

“In this case, we’ve kind of hit a point where we just need something to help push that investigation along, and we’re hoping that somebody out there knows something about this vehicle and that could be that push to help us open some new doors to continue looking into this,” Detective Michael Ruff told ABC4.com.

SLCPD said community members could “play a vital role in helping to make sure there is justice,” and said that coming forward with any information would help make Salt Lake City safer.

Anyone with information about the vehicle or the case has been asked to call 801-799-3000 and reference case 22-13510.

“Even the smallest detail or tip can make a difference in holding those responsible accountable,” SLCPD said.

There is no further information at this time.
