Rockton principal honored as 2025 outstanding principal by Golden Apple Foundation

ROCKTON, Ill. (WTVO) — A Rockton school principal was recognized as the Golden Apple Foundation’s 2025 Outstanding Principal on Wednesday.

Megan Forsythe, principal of Whitman Post Elementary, was surprised by her students and colleagues in the school’s gym.

“I just, really, have always focused on making sure everyone feels valued and important, and part of it, and belong. Whether it’s a classroom of students or a team of educators,” she said. “I am just on cloud nine right now. My legs are like Jello, though, because I am feeling a little bit of shock. This was a complete surprise, I did not wake up this morning imagining this would be a part of my day.”

Forsythe has been a principal for 10 years and once won the Golden Apple Award for teaching at Willowbrook Middle School in South Beloit, in 2009.
