Former St. Helens superintendent will get 1 year’s pay after resignation

PORTLAND, Ore. (COLUMBIA COUNTY SPOTLIGHT) — After nearly four months of paid administrative leave, former St. Helens School District Superintendent Scot Stockwell has resigned.

The school board placed Stockwell on administrative leave Nov. 15 shortly after the arrests of two St. Helens High School teachers — Mark Collins and Eric Stearns — due to allegations of sexual abuse against students. Stockwell officially resigned from the position he’s held for the last decade March 12.

“Superintendent Scot Stockwell and the St. Helens School District have agreed to part ways, recognizing this decision is in the best interest of both parties,” a statement from the district read. “The district thanks the superintendent for his service and wishes him well in his future endeavors.”

Stockwell’s resignation agreement stipulates that he will be paid the equivalent of one year’s worth of his 2024-25 monthly salary as a lump sum. He will also be paid for unused vacation days. The total sum amounts to $228,629.
