NSU offering Venomous Handling certification course open to public

NATCHITOCHES, La. (KTAL/KMSS) – Northwestern State University’s Department of Biology and Microbiology is sponsoring a Level 1 Venomous Handling certification course open to the general public.

According to a press release, the course is designed for land managers, environmental consultants, first responders, homeowners, zookeepers, veterinary professionals, biologists, herpetology enthusiasts, photographers, or anyone looking to learn how to safely handle venomous reptiles while receiving a professional certification.

The two-day course will be held from Saturday, May 24 to Sunday, May 25 from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in Room 122 of NSU’s Bienvenu Hall in Natchitoches.

The release stated that the course will be taught by the Rattlesnake Conservancy, a non-profit organization committed to the long-term preservation of imperiled rattlesnake species.  The fee for the course is $349, and those interested can register or find more information here.
