Louisiana Assistant principal arrested for making student clean own feces

BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — An assistant principal at Rollins Elementary School in Zachary turned herself in to police Monday following allegations that a six-year-old student was forced to clean up her own feces despite having a known dairy allergy.

Kristy Scott Gilpin, 41, was booked on a charge of cruelty to juveniles and later released from the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on a $25,000 bond. An incident report states that Gilpin surrendered with her attorney.

Gilpin’s name and profile have also been removed from the Rollins Elementary School website, and her current employment status with the Zachary Community School District is unclear.

Mother alleges child was forced to clean up after allergic reaction

The case stems from an incident on Feb. 11, when Jamisha Augustine says her daughter was given milk at Rollins Elementary despite the school being aware of her dairy allergy. Augustine says her daughter later soiled herself and was forced to clean up the mess herself.

Augustine removed her daughter from the school on Feb. 17 and has since hired an attorney to pursue legal action against both the school and the district.

School district investigation concludes

The Zachary Community School District (ZCSD) conducted an internal investigation, which concluded on Feb. 21. However, officials have not provided specific details on their findings.

“Due to state and federal laws regarding personnel and student matters, we are prohibited by law from sharing specific details of the investigation,” the district said in a statement. “Based on the results of the investigation, appropriate actions have been taken in alignment with our district policies, applicable laws, and commitment to the well-being of our school community.”

Legal case moving forward

Augustine’s attorney confirmed she is seeking legal action against both Rollins Elementary and the Zachary Community School District.

The Zachary Police Department and the East Baton Rouge District Attorney’s Office have not yet commented on whether additional charges may be filed.

Louisiana First News will continue to follow developments in this case.
