ISP: Indy man arrested after allegedly shooting at vehicle on I-65 in White County

WHITE COUNTY, Ind. — An Indianapolis man was taken into custody after he reportedly shot at a vehicle traveling on I-65 in White County.

According to a news release from the Indiana State Police, 43-year-old George Collins was arrested on the following preliminary charges:

  • One count of criminal recklessness with a firearm, a Level 5 felony
  • One count of possession of stolen property, a Level 5 felony
  • One count of pointing a firearm, a Level 6 felony

On Tuesday evening, dispatch received a call that stated a car had reportedly been shot at while it was traveling southbound on I-65 in White County. The caller provided officials with a description of the suspect vehicle.

When troopers responded to the area, they located a 2013 Chevrolet Equinox that was traveling southbound on I-65 that matched the provided description. The release said that a traffic stop was conducted on the vehicle and all of the occupants were safely removed.

During a preliminary investigation, the release said that a firearm was reportedly located inside the Equinox. The firearm was later determined to be stolen.

The investigation also revealed that the driver of the vehicle, later identified as Collins, reportedly fired at least one shot at a vehicle, which was later found to have “what appeared to be a bullet hole in the windshield.” No one was injured during the incident.

The release said that Collins was taken into custody and transported to the White County Jail. After the investigation is completed, the case is expected to be forwarded to the White County Prosecutor’s Office for further review and potential additional charges.
