IDAHO FALLS – A man was hospitalized after crashing into a tree at Fielding Memorial Cemetery in Idaho Falls Monday afternoon.

It happened sometime between 4 and 4:30 p.m., according to Idaho Falls Police Department spokeswoman Jessica Clements.

The driver, an adult man whose name wasn’t specified, was the only one in the car. Clements says alcohol was a factor and he was speeding. It’s not clear where he was headed or how fast he was going, but Clements says someone driving by the cemetery called police after seeing the car smashed into a tree.

Other than the driver, no one was in the cemetery at the time. The extent of his injuries is unknown, but Clements says the crash wasn’t fatal. He was taken by ambulance to a local hospital.

Clements says the car is likely totaled. Besides the tree that was hit, there is no other damage to cemetery property.
