Arrest made in Rockford convenience store shooting incident

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — A man accused of holding up a convenience store clerk and firing a round at the bulletproof glass enclosure on Sunday has been arrested, police said.

According to Rockford Police, officers were called to the Shell Gas Station, at 2233 Kishwaukee Street, around 11:30 a.m. and learned that Lashaun Washington, 24, entered the store, argued with the clerk, pulled out a gun, and fired a single round into the bulletproof glass surrounding the checkout counter.

Washington then ran from the scene.

Police were able to identify Washington as the suspect in the crime and tracked him to his residence. On Monday, police executed a search warrant and found Washington hiding inside, authorities said.

Police said two firearms, one reported stolen from Alabama, were found at the home.

Washington was charged with Aggravated Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm, and Aggravated Assault.

He was booked into the Winnebago County Jail awaiting the outcome of a pretrial detention hearing.
