New bourbon and wine lounge nearly ready to open in downtown Texarkana

TEXARKANA, Ark. (KTAL/KMSS)—A new business coming to a historic building in downtown Texarkana offered a sneak peek to locals Friday evening.

The Eagle will be a bourbon and wine lounge. They will also offer lighter food options like appetizers and charcuterie.

“We wanted to create something that was unique to Texarkana that kind of fills a niche, that is a place that we would like to hang out at.” says Chris Fuller, who owns The Eagle along with his wife Melissa.

On the the 2nd floor they are building five apartment units.

“They’re all one bedroom. Great place we feel like for somebody to live that’s single or married couple without kids. They can walk around downtown, enjoy all the things downtown here has to offer.” says Fuller.

The building on East Broad Street dates back the the 1800s and needed extensive renovations but now they are nearly complete.

“So it needed everything from plumbing to HVAC to electric. We had to replace everything.” says Fuller, “There was a lot of demo that had to be done because it’s been vacant for like 25 years. So lots of stuff that needs to be torn out and replaced and that kind of thing. We’re past all that stuff, so now we’re into the fun stuff, building the bar, finishing these apartments that you see here upstairs, and so we’re we’re excited about that.”

The owners say they wanted to be a part of the efforts to revive the downtown area.

“I moved here 3 years ago from a larger city. I fell in love with this downtown area and the efforts to revitalize it. So for me there was only one location that I was interested in opening a place like this.” says Fuller.

They are hoping officially open at the end of May.
