Early voting begins for Caddo Parish school millage renewals

SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) — Early voting is taking place for residents in Shreveport, and there are some important issues to consider before casting your ballots.

This week, parents and residents can vote on three significant millage renewals for the Caddo Parish Public Schools. Here’s a breakdown of what each millage provides:

Salaries and Benefits Millage: This millage is essential in helping Caddo Parish attract and retain quality teachers, school staff, and support personnel across the district. It generates $41.3 million annually.

Maintenance Millage: this renewal will fund the upkeep of school buildings, including repairs, renovations, and essential maintenance like heating and air conditioning systems, and roof repairs. It generates $10.5 million each year.

Technology millage: this renewal ensures that teachers and students have access to update-to-date technology, including internet access, and digital management software to monitor students’ online activity. This millage generates $2.5 million annually for digital tools that support student learning.

Early voting is available from March 15 to March 22, from 8:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., except on Sunday, March 16. Early voting will take place at two locations: The Caddo Parish Registrar of Voters on 525 Marshall Street, Suite 103 and the Shreve Memorial Library Hamilton/South at 2111 West Bert Kouns Industrial Loop.

Be sure to bring a valid Louisiana driver’s license, a special state ID, or generally recognized identification with your photo, such as a military ID or passport.
