Pedestrian hospitalized after crash on U.S. 26 in Sandy

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A pedestrian was seriously injured after a crash on U.S. 26 in Sandy Friday night, authorities said.

Just before 8:30 p.m., officers responded to reports of the crash at the intersection of Highway 26 and University Avenue.

When they arrived on scene, police found a pedestrian had been hit by a passing vehicle.

The pedestrian was taken by ambulance to a hospital with serious injuries, police said.

The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation. Police say they don’t suspect intoxication was a factor in the crash.

All westbound lanes of U.S. 26 west of Sandy were closed for several hours, but reopened just after 11 p.m. that evening.

Officials say evidence suggests the pedestrian was crossing the highway outside of a crosswalk. However, the investigation is ongoing.
