Louisiana crawfish prices go up for St. Patrick’s Day weekend

BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — The average price for crawfish has increased around 50 cents per pound for St. Patrick’s Day weekend, The Crawfish App announced Friday.

The average price for live crawfish will be around $3.99 per pound this weekend, while boiled crawfish can be found for around $6.45 per pound. A sack of live crawfish that weighs between 35 and 40 pounds will cost around $150 per sack.

“Unfortunately, the supply of crawfish dropped this past week due to poor weather and other factors,” Laney King, co-founder of The Crawfish App, said. “And at the same time, demand from crawfish consumers soared with the start of Lent.”

King said a surge in the crawfish supply is expected with sunshine and mild weather across the state next week.
