Baton Rouge summer camps for kids, teens with sports, art, music

BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — Registration is open for Baton Rouge area summer camps! Parents can find different camps to send their kids to after school is out for the year.

Many camps offer a variety of activities for children and teens, including sports, art, technology and community outreach.

Here’s what to know about summer camps and registration deadlines.

BREC Summer Camps

Registration opened online on March 8 for East Baton Rouge Parish residents. Out-of-parish residents can register starting March 18. Camps can be chosen based on park and activity.

Community Recreation Speciality Camps: Ages 5-10

  • Ana T. Jordan Community Park.
  • Baker Recreation Center.
  • Church Street Park.
  • Forest Community Park.
  • Highland Road Community Park.
  • Howell Community Park.
  • Independence Community Park.
  • Lovett Road Park.
  • North Sherwood Forest Community Park.

Camps are tailored to specific interests, including nature, STEAM, games and sports.

Cost: $125 per session for EBR Parish residents and $150 per session for out-of-parish residents.

YMCA Summer Camps

Baton Rouge YMCA summer camps run from May 26 to Aug. 1 for kids ages 4-12. Activities can include swimming, cooking classes, STEM, pickleball, drama, sports and more.

The registration fee is $25. Weekly fees are $150 for Y Household Members and $210 for Program Participants. For the week of July 4, fees are $120 for Y Household Members and $168 for Program Participants.

LSU Tiger’s Den

Tiger’s Den is a camp program led by LSU students for kids ages 6-12 with sessions including sports, games, educational activities, field trips and arts and crafts.

Registration opened March 1 for LSU students, faculty, staff and UREC members. Registration for others opens on April 1.

BR Music Studios

Summer camps are available for kids of all ages interested in learning about music.

Big Bad Musicial Theater Camp

This camp from June 9-21 has acting, singing and dancing, leading up to a performance showcase. The cost is $395 for a full-day camp and $295 for a half-day camp. Discounts are available.

Young Band Nation Camps

This camp in July offers music lessons and band rehearsals and teaches live performance skills. Kids ages 9-12 can attend July 14-18, and teens ages 13-16 can attend July 21-25. The cost is $350.
