The largest approved settlement, $1.5 million, will go to the estate of Ezell Ricky Island. Island was killed in 2020 while riding in the back seat of a car that was chased by police in an umarked vehicle. The Ford that Island was in crashed into another vehicle and a pillar supporting Chicago Transit Authority tracks and was ripped apart.
Another $1 million will go to the estate of Mignonne Robinson. Robinson, a nail salon owner and mother, was killed in February of 2020 when she was struck by a car that was fleeing police.
A settlement of $400,000 was approved for Eyraechel Meiang. Meiang was hit by a police car when the driver blew a red light in 2020. The officer that was driving, Charles Gavin, is no longer on the city’s payroll.
Finally, a 280,000 was OK’d to settle a lawsuit from Miracle Boyd, who was injured by a Chicago police officer during a violent confrontation at a demonstration in 2020.
