Following a unanimous vote on Wednesday, Ramirez-Rosa will succeed Rosa Escareno, the outgoing head of the Chicago Park District. Escareno announced her resignation on Feb. 26. Two days later, Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson appointed Ramirez-Rosa as the next Chicago Park District superintendent and CEO.
“My administration is committed to investing in our city’s residents and communities,” Johnson said. “Making our Park District more equitable and accessible, particularly in disinvested communities, is critical to improving the quality of life for all Chicagoans. Carlos is an effective leader and will be a strong Superintendent of the Chicago Park District.”
With the vote confirmed, Ramirez-Rosa will begin the new role on Tuesday, April 1. His contract runs through April 30, 2027.
A resolution on Wednesday also honored Escareno, who the board praised for efforts in establishing and expanding parental leave and rebuilding the lifeguard pipeline.
