On February 14, 2025, the Director of Development for Evangel Christian Academy reported ‘suspicious bookkeeping activity’ to Shreveport Police detectives.
Shreveport Police Department’s White Collar Crimes Unit identified Angela Nichole Stevens, who served as the academy’s bookkeeper from April 12, 2023 to June 13, 2024, was ‘solely responsible for handling and depositing cash payments collected from various departments within the school.’
SPD said an internal review revealed discrepancies in financial records dating from April 2023 to June 2024. Detectives determined that large sums of cash intended for deposit were missing and later traced to Stevens’ personal bank account.
Due to the misappropriation of funds, Evangel Christian Academy suffered a total financial loss of $85,700.25.
On March 10, 2025, Shreveport Police Patrol officers took Stevens into custody. She has been charged with one count of felony theft.
