On March 6, around 4 p.m., officers were called to the 800 block of West Street for reports of domestic violence. The woman told authorities the incident began when they started to argue because Deleon threatened to call DCFS on her.
The suspect slapped, punched and strangled the woman, according to court records. He also said “I’ll kill you,” officers reported.
A witness told police she saw Deleon strangle the victim, so she hit him with a broom to break up the fight.
Officials found a substance that field tested positive for heroin on the suspect. He was also wanted in Winnebago County for failure to appear in court, according to court documents.
Deleon is charged with domestic battery causing bodily harm, aggravated domestic battery causing strangulation, interfering with reporting domestic violence and possession of a controlled substance.
