By rssfeeds-admin Nine states are reporting measles cases to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention: Alaska, California, Georgia, Kentucky, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York City, Rhode Island, and Texas. Louisiana Surgeon General Ralph Abraham said there are no confirmed cases in the state as of March 5.
“The best way to protect against measles is with the measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccine. MMR is safe and effective. Two doses of MMR vaccine are about 97% effective at preventing measles; one dose is about 93% effective,” Abraham said.
He said the vaccine is typically recommended for children and adults, with most Louisiana children getting two doses of the MMR before kindergarten.
A total of 164 measles cases and three outbreaks have been reported to the CDC in 2025. Ninety-three percent of cases are outbreak-related. One death was confirmed in Texas.
