NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Former 911 director Tyrell Morris has announced his run for Mayor of New Orleans.
Morris stepped down from his position as Orleans Parish Communication District Executive Director in 2023.
In 2024, Morris was indicted
WGNO’s LBJ spoke with Morris on Thursday to discuss his decision to run and ask what voters should think, considering he hasn’t been to trial yet on those charges.
“When I left 911, my desire to run for mayor is nothing that came yesterday. This has been a two-year evaluation process. If you know anything about New Orleans our political machine, when you feel like you’re being infiltrated in that machine you become a target. So, I feel strongly that that’s what happened to me, but I actually am looking forward to the opportunity through the criminal justice system to defend myself and I feel very strongly and confident that I will prevail in that,” said Morris.
