Trial delay for case involving former 911 Director Tyrell Morris

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — The trial for former New Orleans 911 Director Tyrell Morris, which was set to begin Tuesday, Aug. 12, has been delayed.

According to officials at New Orleans criminal court, new evidence has been introduced. Due to this, defense claims they need extra time.

Morris is facing multiple charges related to his alleged crash involving a city owned vehicle in 2023.

Court documents further report that Morris is accused of interfering with the crash investigation while serving as the city’s 911 Director. This includes allegations that he failed to submit a drug and alcohol test after a crash and possibly altering public documents.

Morris was recently candidate in the race for Mayor of New Orleans but was disqualified, along with others, after a judge discovered candidates allegedly failed to file their state taxes on time for the last five years.

The trial is now expected to start on Sept. 22.
