According to an affidavit, 23-year-old Semaj Joiner is wanted on multiple charges, including carrying a firearm on school property, attempted second-degree murder, and illegal use of weapons and dangerous instrumentalities.
The shooting occurred Sunday evening at U.S. Jones Hall, a student dormitory. Authorities say Joiner and the victim had been communicating through the social media app Sidechat and arranged to meet in a dorm room for a haircut. After Joiner entered, the victim followed and confronted him about an outstanding debt.
A physical struggle ensued when Joiner reportedly grabbed a weapon, leading to a single gunshot that struck the victim in the stomach.
Joiner fled before law enforcement arrived, according to the affidavit. Surveillance footage captured him in the hallway with a firearm in hand. The victim later identified Joiner in a police lineup.
Authorities are actively searching for Joiner.
