According to Rockford Police, officers were called to City Food Market, at 2506 Auburn Street, at 2:49 p.m. on Monday, February 17th for a reported shooting.
Through witness interviews and security footage, police determined that Tahkarieon Bell, 20, and Tymere Bell, 18, and their mother entered the store and Tahkarieon recognized another man within the store as someone who had shot him “a couple of years prior.”
The men began arguing and both Bell brothers were seen brandishing handguns, trying to get the victim to come outside with them, while the mother attempted to calm the situation, court records showed.
As the suspects were leaving, police said the surveillance footage showed Tymere fired one shot at the victim, at which point the Bell brothers and their mother ran from the store and fled in a blue Mazda.
Police were able to identify the Mazda, and upon finding it later that day, unoccupied in an alley off N. Rockton Avenue, authorities impounded the vehicle as evidence.
When the mother reported her car as stolen on February 18th, she was questioned by detectives, saying that following the shooting both of her sons got out of the car on Auburn Court and fled.
Both Bell brothers were booked into the Winnebago County Jail around midnight on Tuesday, March 4th.
Tymere Bell faces Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm and Aggravated Unlawful Possession of a Weapon without a Firearm Owners Identification.
Tahkerion Bell faces charges of Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm, Possession of a Firearm without a Firearm Owner’s Identification, and Unlawful Use of Weapons by a Felon.
