ST. MARTINVILLE, La. (
KLFY) — Families who are coping with the loss of a loved one will be able to participate in a grief walk being hosted by the city of St. Martinville.
Catherine James, the host of the grief walk, said she will be working with Carl Mitchell, the owner of the Candlelight Lounge, and Rita James, the owner of the Lil Easy nightclub.
“I teamed up with Dr. Kim and Carl and my aunt Rita, and we decided to do a grief walk that we could give awareness to people who are coping with grief to help other people that’s dealing with grief,” said James.
The lineup for the walk will begin at the Candlelight Lounge and will end at the Lil Easy nightclub on Main Street. Following the walk, people will be able to release balloons in honor of their late family members and will also be able to speak to counselors if needed.
James said the event is to help those who are grieving in silence and that she has also experienced grieving in silence after losing both her son and mother.
“My son passed in a car accident on 182, it’s going to be four years, and I didn’t really have time to grieve because my mom passed nine months later,” said James.
The host of the event said she hopes to have a turnout of around 50 to 100 people. She encourages everyone to come out so they can all start the healing process together.
“It would be great if we had more, the more the merrier, I hope that they can come together and make friends, I don’t know if it’s a future king, but I think is something good that everybody can lean on each other for one time because we’re stronger together,” said James.
The Grief Walk is scheduled to take place on March 16 at 2 p.m.
